Action

Crystal therapy is the belief that different crystals and gems have therapeutic effects. Characteristics of the crystal or gem such as mineral content, color, and vibration or wavelength determine the type of effect it has. These characteristics are thought to interact with the body's energy field or energy points called “chakras” in a unique way to influence physical or mental processes.

For example, selenite is believed to help with conditions involving the spine, bone, or muscles. It is also believed to help users achieve “higher self” guidance or clarity and wisdom from spirits or angels. Amber stones are associated with feelings of intimacy or closeness and love. Amethysts are linked to stability and strength. Jade is associated with harmony and confidence. Sapphire is thought to decrease pain and swelling (inflammation) and relieve depression.

Some practitioners of crystal therapy recommend carrying the desired crystal or gem in the pocket or purse and making contact with it periodically. They say that each time a person makes physical or visual contact with the stone, he or she will be reminded of the desired outcome, intention, or goal related to the stone. These frequent reminders will help the person achieve these ends.
