Description

The Zone diet is a high-protein, low-calorie diet.

The Zone diet is used for obesity, general weight loss, and athletic performance.

Is It Effective?

Effectiveness header

NatMed Pro rates effectiveness based on scientific evidence according to the following scale: Effective, Likely Effective, Possibly Effective, Possibly Ineffective, Likely Ineffective, Ineffective, and Insufficient Evidence to Rate.

Possibly effective
  • Obesity. Some research shows that people who follow the Zone diet lose weight and reduce their waist size. The diet seems to work about as well as other weight loss programs such as the LEARN and Ornish diets. The Zone diet might work as well as the Atkins diet. But some research shows that the Atkins diet is better for losing weight.
Insufficient evidence
  • Athletic performance. Early research shows that following the Zone diet for 7 days might worsen athletic performance.
  • Other conditions.

More evidence is needed to rate the Zone diet for these other uses.
