Virtual Sound Healing for Reducing Anxiety

Journal Abstracts
Mar 17, 2026

A study published in Complementary Therapies in Medicine explored whether a virtual sound healing method called biofield tuning (BT) could help people with moderate to high levels of anxiety. BT uses sound vibrations to balance the body’s energy field, aiming to reduce stress and improve well-being.Conducted over Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic, the study involved 15 participants that received three weekly, hour-long BT sessions from certified practitioners.

Most participants completed the study, and the virtual sessions were well-received. Surveys showed significant reductions in anxiety, negative emotions, and perceived stress after the treatments. Participants also reported feeling more positive and less overwhelmed. Language analysis of participants’ spoken words during the study found a noticeable decrease in negative emotional language, suggesting a shift toward more positive emotional states.

This is the first study to show that virtual BT may lead to meaningful improvements in anxiety and mental health. While these results are early and the number of participants small, they suggest that sound-based energy healing could be a helpful, low-risk option for people struggling with anxiety.
