Integrative Approach to Alzheimer’s Disease Shows Promise

News Briefs
Aug 18, 2025

As traditional pharmacological treatments for Alzheimer’s disease continue to fail, the search for solutions continues beyond the limitations of conventional methods.

A new study, published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, points to the value of an integrated approach to the disease, including mindfulness practices, nutrition, and exercise.

Symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, a multifactorial degenerative brain disorder, include cognitive impairment, apathy, and mood disorders.

Researchers analyzed the extent to which lifestyle risk factors and environmental risk factors can be controlled to achieve a better quality of life. They examined interventions including nutrition, daily exercise, and avoidance of drugs and toxic substances. Meditation and stress control techniques such as Qigong were studied.

Innovative screening programs for early detection using reliable biomarkers have become essential, according to the study.

The failure of conventional drugs has spurred development of nutraceuticals as part of multitargeted therapy. When integrative approaches and novel pharmacological treatments are combined, there may be more hope for success in controlling Alzheimer’s disease.
