Job Overview  

This position will work closely with the CEO and will actively participate in strategic, operational, and financial decision-making to help shape and guide the growth and development of the company. The Controller plays a key role in overseeing and reporting on the accounting activities for KnoWEwell and its subsidiaries, in formulating company budgets, forecasting and managing expenses to stay in line with projected revenue. The job requires ensuring that company accounts payable payments are made on time and that debt is serviced properly.

Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Oversee the KnoWEwell and Natural Awakenings Publishing Corporation (NAPC) accounting activities and ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, the consolidation of and distribution of internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits and annual budgets.

  • Provide strategic financial leadership and support on the evaluation of potential alliances, acquisitions, mergers, investments and/or other issues affecting the business.

  • Oversee the KnoWEwell and Natural Awakenings Publishing Corporation (NAPC) accounting activities and ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, the consolidation of and distribution of internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits and annual budgets.

  • Provide strategic financial leadership and support on the evaluation of potential alliances, acquisitions, mergers, investments and/or other issues affecting the business.

  • Recommend and lead new efforts to improve ROE/ROA performance.

  • Work to optimize the handling of financial support service relationships and initiate needed strategies for improvement.
  • Stay apprised of all local, state and federal tax laws and business regulations that affect KnoWEwell and its subsidiaries and ensure that the company operates within the proper parameters.
  • Align financial policies and procedures with company objectives.
  • Establish financial reporting systems and controls to ensure compliance with company expenditure requirements and to meet customer needs.
  • Recommend and develop policies, procedures and systems to meet company objectives.
  • Prepare financial documents such as business reports, financial forecasts and statements to understand the financial state of business.
  • Monitor company’s financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs.
  • Oversee the activities of the disbursement and accounts receivable departments.
  • Assure corporate income tax compliance to assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes.
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data and enhance the company's value.
  • Assist the CEO on a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports, such as acquisition integrations and information technology enhancements.
  • Oversee financial audits of KnoWEwell and its subsidiaries.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance or statistics
  • 10+ years of experience in progressive Accounting and Financial roles or 6+ years in a Big Four accounting firm or close equivalent
  • Required: CPA, and experience in a shared services and franchisee environment
  • Preferred: MBA or MAcc; experience in a health or wellness environment
  • Excellent numerical proficiency, attention to detail and use of logic
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Resourceful and proactive, willingness to jump in and roll up sleeves when needed
