Help Stave Off Early Death By Drinking Two or More Cups of Tea Daily?

Journal Abstracts
Mar 05, 2026

A few cups of tea a day might help to avoid an early death, a UK Biobank prospective cohort study showed.

Among nearly half a million (498,043) middle-aged adults (aged 40-69 years), those who consumed two or more cups of tea a day saw a modest but lower risk for all-cause mortality over a median follow-up of 11.2-years. Participants were asked to complete a baseline touchscreen questionnaire from 2006-2010, and self-reported tea intake was measured along with mortality from all causes and leading causes of death, including all cardiovascular disease (CVD), ischemic heart disease, stroke, and respiratory disease.

In fully adjusted models for sociodemographic and lifestyle factors, drinking more than two cups of tea per day was associated with a 14% to 24% lower risk for death from all cardiovascular diseases.
